Session 00 — VTT Tutorial & Character Intros

Summary

Session zero. No in-fiction content — the session was entirely OOC: a walkthrough of the Foundry VTT system followed by character introductions and campaign setup. The crew met each other for the first time and established some pre-existing connections. First real session will open mid-mission in the combat zone / South Night City area.

Key Events

VTT Tutorial

  • DM walked the group through Foundry VTT: character sheets, stats, skills, gear tab, cyberware installation, initiative, combat flow, movement, and targeting
  • Test combat run against a dummy NPC (“Testyboy”) and a small group of booster gangsters in a dingy drug den
  • Notable mechanical moments: Fix-it-Felix accidentally applied damage to himself; Kenny Log-ins critted a lockpick roll — badly; Golden Girl landed a crit on the last ganger

Character Introductions

  • Kenny Log-ins — young tech from Port Fantôme (drift city, French Guiana coast); ended up in Night City via a botched debt-repayment job that took him to space
  • Fix-it-Felix — German fixer, loner, lost his family; has a room in the back of a shop and a digital harmonica he cannot play
  • Golden Girl — med student at a university near the combat zone; taking edge runner jobs to pay tuition
  • Mr. Zip — Serbian nomad driver/smuggler from South Bay Drift; drives the Zip Mobile; Mr. Zip and Fix-it-Felix have an established working relationship
  • Broker — arrived late; runs some kind of fashion/tech company; the first mission will involve retrieving something for him

Campaign Setup

  • First sessions set in the combat zone and South Night City
  • First mission: retrieve a McGuffin (possibly prototype fashion-integrated armor or tech-linked clothing) for Broker
  • Mission framing described as “railroading a bit” for session one to get everyone moving

Standout Quotes

“You never touch another man’s tool without asking.” — Kenny Log-ins (to Mr. Zip)

“Real estate’s cheap in the combat zone.” — Kenny Log-ins

“I just like shooting people. My passion.” — Fix-it-Felix

“This is why my healer got a shooter.” — Golden Girl

“We’re gonna get you out of this alive, maybe.” — Kenny Log-ins (to Testyboy)

“You stubbed your pinky finger. It hurts like hell and you put it in your mouth.” — DM, narrating Kenny’s crit fail

Open Threads

  • What exactly is Broker’s McGuffin and who has it?
  • Kenny’s unresolved life-path connections: corp exec enemy, imprisoned/exiled lover, childhood enemy from the drift
  • The corp that has been pressuring Kenny to work exclusively for them

Meta / Errata

  • Dodge rules clarified: When an enemy targets a PC, DM announces the DV before the player decides whether to attempt a dodge (evasion skill). Dodge is not automatic.
  • Damage application: Players cannot apply damage to enemy tokens directly — DM applies it. (Foundry permission issue, not a rules ruling.)
  • Cyberware installation: All PCs took static (flat) values for starting cyberware rather than rolling.
  • Armor ablation: When armor absorbs a hit, it loses 1 stopping power until repaired. Kenny can fix armor in the field.
  • Hit location: Only tracked for flavor unless a player specifically aims (costs full action, grants −8 to shot, allows targeting head/legs/held item).
  • Ammo: Group will track ammo. Reload costs an action.

Player Notes

  • Fix-it-Felix’s last name is “Bargeld” (German for “cash”)
  • Mr. Zip’s real name is Radovan Stojanovic; plastic Jesus on the Zip Mobile dashboard is his most prized possession
  • Golden Girl’s roommate in the dorms is an unnamed NPC — flagged as a potential story hook
