Session 06 — Kenny Just Logged In

Summary

In-game date: Wednesday, June 3, 2045, evening — continuing directly from Session 05’s cliffhanger, no time skip. Kenny Log-ins, high on synthcoke and genuinely unsure he’s coming back, calls his tech partner Unity (Euna Tae) to say goodbye and ask her to look after his dog if he doesn’t return. The crew — Kenny, Golden Girl, Fix-it-Felix, Mr. Zip, and Broker — approaches Continental Brands’ South Town facility from the rear while Shoa Ling and the surviving members of The Calling draw CB’s attention with a frontal assault out front.

Infiltrating through an unlocked back door, the crew finds Misty imprisoned and in pain, bluffs past a guard, and locates Mr. Continental himself in a back office. Rather than fight immediately, Kenny forges falsified data through his internal agent, convincing Mr. Continental that Shoa Ling is running hidden, unrecognizable “Borgware” that puts him far closer to cyberpsychosis than CB’s readouts suggest — a lie that works, and draws CB’s forces away from the crew’s flank to focus on the frontal fight. When Mr. Continental orders his helicopter prepped for an evacuation, the crew moves to cut off his exit.

A long, chaotic firefight follows. Mr. Zip leaps off the helipad platform to grenade the helicopter’s interior mid-jump, then finishes off and physically hurls the wounded pilot off the helipad, claiming the aircraft for himself. Kenny drags Misty to safety through the crossfire, barricades a side corridor, and — riding a Sandevistan-and-synthcoke flow state that has him dodging nearly everything thrown at him — lands a spectacular hack against Mr. Continental’s agent (rolling a 39 against DV 26, all four remaining luck spent), scrambling his ability to order kill-strikes against Shoa Ling’s people in the sewers below. Golden Girl reveals a pop-up bulletproof shield built into her cyberarm for the first time, taking a hit meant to protect Misty. Broker stays hidden and disguised the entire fight — Mr. Continental never spots him. Felix lands a killing blow on a guard. Furious and cornered, Mr. Continental shoots the unarmed, wounded Misty out of pure spite before Kenny finally corners him near the helicopter and forces a surrender: release Dr. Willie unharmed, walk away on foot, and live. Mr. Continental capitulates. He and his surviving men retreat empty-handed and humiliated.

In the aftermath, Kenny loots Mr. Continental’s open terminal, uncovering Continental Brands’ actual mandate in South Town: a cleanup operation to suppress word of a new drug — Vilify — adapted from CB’s own chemicals, with South City meant as a test bed for future Nonh shipments before their supply chain was destroyed. The only remaining significant Nonh source is off-world, synthesized on the Moon under low gravity — inaccessible to anyone at the table. Martin Gorsky and the surviving Calling members emerge from the wreckage, deeply grateful, not even sure the crew’s disinformation ploy against Shoa Ling had worked; Kenny breaks the news that Mr. Continental had a literal kill-tracker counting down how many of them he needed to execute to push Shoa Ling into cyberpsychosis — it was closer than anyone realized. Kenny tells Dr. Willie the truth about Dr. Brightowski’s death at Mr. Continental’s hands, and proposes cryogenic freezing as a stopgap to halt The Calling’s ongoing decay until a real cure or new Nonh supply turns up — Willie confirms the nanomachines would survive the freeze. Martin pays the crew’s agreed 3,000 EB fee in full. Mr. Zip flies his new helicopter back to The Second Sons’ turf at Goose Salvage to stash and repaint it, and the session ends with the crew mostly unscratched, showing off the spoils.

Key Events

En Route

  • Mr. Zip asks retroactively about buying Kenny’s custom “smart” ammo; Kenny confirms it takes a full day of downtime he hasn’t had
  • Kenny, high on synthcoke and keyed up, calls Unity (Euna Tae) mid-drive to say goodbye in case he doesn’t come back: “just feed the dog please… if you’d never see me again, it was nice knowing you.” She’s audibly worried; he brushes past it
  • The crew sets goals for the raid: Zip wants payback on Mr. Continental for Dr. Brightowski’s death; Kenny wants to “ruin his day” and extract Jackson/Misty if alive (secondary goal); Felix just wants money
  • An unrelated armored truck crashes through CB’s front gate as an incidental distraction, drawing guard attention away from the crew’s approach
  • The crew parks the Zipmobile behind the building and moves in on foot; from a distance they hear Shoa Ling — now heavily cybered with a “raspy robotic voice” — shouting “Continental, give us the doctor or face destruction!”

Infiltration

  • Kenny picks the back door lock; the crew moves room to room, finding Misty imprisoned, “huddled and scrunched over in pain,” guarded by a CB merc
  • The merc draws on Felix, who bluffs (“I was just looking for the bathroom… Mr. Continental called us in to give you guys some help”) — the bluff doesn’t fully land, but confuses the guard enough that he calls it in rather than shoot
  • In an adjoining room, the crew finds Mr. Continental at a desk with two guards, all distracted by the chaos outside; the crew quietly closes the door rather than engage immediately

The Disinformation Play

  • Mr. Continental confronts the crew directly, skeptical of their claim to help: “You get your friends out there to leave us, or we wipe them out.” Zip: “No, they’re not our friends. And we don’t care if you wipe them out.” He redirects more guards to the front line instead
  • Through the window, the crew watches Shoa Ling’s assault — a mouth-mounted cybersnake attack that misses a guard but destroys a door, followed by heavy SMG fire
  • Kenny uses his internal agent to forge data (Electronic Security roll) convincing Mr. Continental that Shoa Ling is running hidden “Borgware” — falsely framed as unfamiliar, possibly off-world tech — putting him much closer to cyberpsychosis than CB’s own readouts indicate. Mr. Continental is initially skeptical (“This doesn’t follow our readouts — we know how our own product works”) but is won over once he watches Shoa Ling fight
  • Convinced the situation is more dangerous than it looks, Mr. Continental orders the helicopter prepped for evacuation: “Agent Ford, get the chopper ready” — the crew’s cue to move on the escape route

The Firefight

  • Mr. Zip’s helicopter assault: leaps off the raised helipad platform (spending luck to guarantee the athletics roll and the hit), fires a grenade round from his flare gun into the open helicopter mid-jump, and lands the jump clean. The chopper’s armor holds, but the guard inside is badly wounded; Zip finishes him off over subsequent turns, then physically hurls the wounded guard off the helipad and claims the helicopter for himself
  • Misty’s extraction: Kenny personally drags Misty (sick and weak from nanomachine withdrawal, “gasoline in her body”) into the hallway under fire, then barricades a side door with fallen shelving and talks a guard down with a persuasion roll rather than fighting him
  • Kenny’s flow state: riding his Sandevistan and synthcoke, Kenny dodges nearly every attack thrown at him for the rest of the fight — a running table joke about him being “in all the matrices.” His only weapon throughout is his acid-round air pistol
  • Golden Girl: reveals a pop-up bulletproof shield built into her cyberarm for the first time on-screen, protecting Misty; takes 5 damage from a shot meant to hit Misty, who is separately hit in the calf by a guard and later personally targeted by Mr. Continental out of spite
  • Broker: stays in cover the entire fight, taunting a guard about corporate benefits (“You don’t get paid enough, dude, just go home… you’re gonna need a [dental] plan after this”) — Mr. Continental never spots him despite his domino-mask disguise
  • Felix: trades fire with a single guard across the fight and eventually lands a killing blow
  • Kenny’s hack on Mr. Continental: attempts to disrupt Mr. Continental’s ability to remotely order kill-strikes against Shoa Ling’s people in the sewers. DM sets DV 26; Kenny spends all four of his remaining luck and rolls a total of 39. Mr. Continental is visibly shaken — “What the fuck was that?” Kenny: “Kenny just logged in.” His agent stops responding correctly for the rest of the fight
  • Mr. Continental’s cruelty: furious and losing control of the situation, he steps in personally with a heavy pistol and shoots the unarmed, weakened Misty in the calf out of pure spite

Endgame

  • Kenny corners Mr. Continental near the chopper, delivering an ultimatum while shooting him with the air pistol: “This is not going your way… you leave Dr. Willie behind, you walk away from this place on your feet, and you don’t die today.” Zip riddles him from the helicopter: “If you aim to give us a shot, we’ll riddle you. What are we?… The answer is a helicopter”
  • Mr. Continental capitulates (“Fine. We walk out of here”), tries and fails to insist on taking the helicopter, and releases Dr. Willie unharmed. His agent still isn’t working right from Kenny’s hack, so his remaining men leave on foot out the south exit
  • The DM confirms Broker’s disguise held completely — Mr. Continental never realized he was part of the crew at any point

Aftermath at the Facility

  • Golden Girl treats Misty’s wounds; the crew debates logistics — Zip claims the helicopter as his new vehicle (plans to strip its transponders and repaint it at The Second Sons’ Goose Salvage yard, with a Zip logo); Isabella is called in to help fly it back safely
  • Kenny loots the facility: security cameras “just to screw with Continental Brands,” Mr. Continental’s laptop (“and his porn stash”), and reads the terminal Continental left open without needing to hack it
  • Intel found: Continental Brands was sent to South Town explicitly as a cleanup crew to suppress word of a drug (Vilify) adapted from their own chemicals; South City was meant to be a test bed for future Nonh shipments before their supply chain was disrupted; no further significant Nonh supply exists locally — the primary source ships down from the Moon, synthesizable only in low gravity
  • Martin Gorsky and the surviving members of The Calling emerge from the ruins, overwhelmed with gratitude — Martin doesn’t even know if the crew’s “cyber psycho trick” worked. Kenny breaks the news to him that Mr. Continental had a literal tracker counting exactly how many of them he needed to kill to push Shoa Ling into cyberpsychosis — it was genuinely close. Kenny reminds them pointedly of their promise never to assimilate anyone without consent, given what happens “when people break promises to us”
  • Dr. Willie, freed and relieved (“stoked to be alive and not stuck in that stupid ass closet anymore”), tells Martin’s group he has no more Vilify and needs Continental Brands’ specific chemicals to make more — a dead end for now
  • Kenny tells Dr. Willie the truth: Mr. Continental killed Dr. Brightowski despite promising not to, after Kenny gave up his location as a “personal favor.” Willie is shaken (“that stubborn old man… it’s not his kind of problem”); Kenny admits he’s carrying the guilt
  • Cryo proposal: with no viable path to off-world Nonh supply, Kenny proposes cryogenically freezing The Calling’s members as a stopgap against their ongoing decay. Dr. Willie confirms the nanomachines remain functional through freezing and defrosting — left as an unresolved but validated plan
  • Martin pays the crew’s full agreed fee: 3,000 EB, split five ways (600 EB each)

Return to Base

  • Mr. Zip successfully pilots the stolen helicopter back to Second Sons territory at Goose Salvage (strong Pilot Air roll despite unfamiliarity with the model) with Isabella accompanying; the Second Sons are initially alarmed by an incoming chopper but stand down once Kenny is visible
  • The crew shows off the helicopter, joking about the CB tail markings: “This is Continental Breads. It’s a treat to eat, boys.” / “Oh yeah, fuck the corpos.” / “Except for you, Broker”
  • Kenny crafts a fresh batch of synthcoke and shares it with Felix, whose dependency (flagged in Session 05) continues
  • Kenny mentions wanting to get muscle and bone lace cyberware installed by Dr. Willie soon

Standout Quotes

“Just feed the dog please… if you’d never see me again, it was nice knowing you, and I hope that you don’t remember me as too bad of a guy.” “Kenny, I’m worried.” “Yeah, me too. Bye.” — Kenny Log-ins and Unity

“No, Mr. Continental called us in to give you guys some help.” — Fix-it-Felix, bluffing a guard

“No, they’re not our friends. And we don’t care if you wipe them out.” — Mr. Zip, on The Calling

“This doesn’t follow our readouts at all. This doesn’t make any sense. We know how our own product works.” “He’s using Borgware that you are not familiar with. It’s from space.” — Mr. Continental and Kenny Log-ins

Kenny points at his shutters with two fingers, then points at Mr. Continental: “Kenny just logged in.” — after rolling a 39 on his hack of Mr. Continental’s agent

“This is not going your way. Maybe you stop trying to just kill people and we let you walk away on your feet. You leave Dr. Willie behind, you walk away from this place on your feet, and you don’t die today.” — Kenny Log-ins, cornering Mr. Continental

“I got a riddle for you, Mr. Continental. If you aim to give us a shot, we’ll riddle you. What are we?… The answer is a helicopter.” — Mr. Zip

“You might have had a little misdirection successful there, Broker — I don’t think Mr. Continental ever saw you. So despite your dope-ass disguise, you’re gonna get away with this one.” — Peyote Quixote (DM)

“Frankly, I’m just stoked to be alive and not stuck in that stupid ass closet anymore.” — Dr. Willie, on being freed

“Ah, that stubborn old man. What’s he doing even getting involved in this kind of stuff? It’s not his kind of problem.” — Dr. Willie, learning of Dr. Brightowski’s death

“I know I’m pretty attracted to having a collective, but this is my collective, these guys.” — Kenny Log-ins, to The Calling

“Hey boys, you like my new ride? I got a hell of a deal on it.” “Where the hell did you get a helicopter? This is rad as hell, bro.” “Look at the tail numbers on it. This is Continental Breads. It’s a treat to eat, boys.” “Oh yeah, fuck the corpos.” “Except for you, Broker.” — Mr. Zip, Peyote Quixote (DM), and Kenny Log-ins

“Mr. Continental shooting at a poor college kid with no armor on just to make him feel like a big guy.” — Peyote Quixote (DM), post-fight recap

Open Threads

  • The Calling’s Nonh supply crisis: their only significant remaining source is off-world (the Moon, low-gravity synthesis only) — no one in the party has space connections. Unresolved.
  • Kenny’s cryo-freezing proposal: validated in principle by Dr. Willie, but not yet attempted. Would it actually save The Calling from decay?
  • Misty’s fate: freed and treated by Golden Girl, but her long-term situation — back with The Calling, independent, or something else — wasn’t resolved on-screen.
  • Will Continental Brands retaliate? Mr. Continental was humiliated, disarmed, and sent home on foot. Kenny already considered him an enemy after Session 05 — this can only have made it worse.
  • Nexus Mods reopening: Dr. Willie mentions “once we get insurance” sorted — played as a joke, but a real plot hook for Nexus Mods’ future.
  • Kenny’s planned cyberware (muscle and bone lace) from Dr. Willie — not yet scheduled.
  • Kenny’s custom “smart” ammo — still pending a full day of downtime to craft.
  • Mr. Zip’s armor upgrade decision (Kevlar vs. Light Armor Jack) — left mid-conversation at session’s end.
  • Felix’s synthcoke dependency — continuing, still unaddressed by the crew.
  • Golden Girl’s roommate (unnamed, potential story hook) — still open.
  • Kenny’s life path connections (corp exec enemy, imprisoned lover, childhood enemy) — still open.

Meta / Errata

  • In-game date: Wednesday, June 3, 2045, evening — continues directly from Session 05’s ending, no time skip
  • IP awarded: 150 per player (up from the usual 100) — DM cited the encounter as intended to be more intense than it played out
  • Payment: Martin Gorsky/The Calling paid the crew’s agreed 3,000 EB fee in full, split five ways — 600 EB each
  • Kenny’s hack roll: DV 26 to disrupt Mr. Continental’s kill-call ability against The Calling; spent all 4 remaining luck, rolled a total of 39
  • Crafting rule confirmed: player-crafted gear can be made for one price category cheaper than market, requiring a full day of downtime and a DV roll that isn’t guaranteed — failure wastes the day but not the money
  • Combat rules clarified in play: throwing uses Athletics, not Body; armor-piercing rounds/grenades double armor ablation; full-round aimed shots take a -8 penalty; explosive blast radius set ad hoc by the DM (no reference on hand)
  • VTT technical issues: recurring dice-registration failures, targeting confusion, and browser incompatibility (Firefox flagged again for Golden Girl’s player) throughout the extended combat
  • DM note: intended a much more intense fight and worried he’d overtuned it — the crew came through with barely a scratch except Golden Girl (5 damage, one day off her feet)
  • Downtime is coming before the next session — flagged for Kenny’s ammo crafting, Zip’s skill points and armor decision, and general shopping

Player Notes

  • Kenny’s hack roll (39 against DV 26) was the mechanical high point of the session — a decisive, single-roll swing that ended a fight the DM had built to be much harder
  • Golden Girl’s cyberarm shield finally paying off on-screen after being flagged as unconfigured since Session 00
  • Broker’s total success at staying hidden from Mr. Continental all session is a quiet, recurring strength of his playstyle — he’s now gotten through two major confrontations (CB retainer negotiations, this raid) without the corp-side NPCs ever clocking his involvement
  • Mr. Continental shooting an unarmed, wounded prisoner out of spite confirms the crew’s read on him from Session 05 — genuinely a bad actor, not just a corporate obstacle
  • The Calling’s supply crisis now has no easy answer on the table — lunar synthesis is well beyond anything the crew can currently reach, which sets up a much bigger, more science-fictional problem than the street-level drug plot started as
  • Mr. Zip picking up a helicopter is a significant escalation in the crew’s mobility and firepower going forward
