Misty Cerulean

Overview

A Knight City University MedTech student — a classmate Golden Girl recognized on sight but barely knew. Deep in Vilify addiction, to the point of full assimilation into The Calling’s hive mind in the South Bay sewers. “Misty Cerulean” is not a confirmed name — it’s what the crew settled on calling her (petitioned by Mr. Zip) because nobody actually knows who she is.

Known Facts

  • Recognized by Golden Girl as a fellow KCU MedTech student — “a good student, nothing too outstanding,” someone she’d exchanged hellos with in classes and labs, but not a real acquaintance
  • Hadn’t been to class in the last week — around the same time The Calling’s Vilify supply dried up
  • Offered up by The Calling as a “test subject” in exchange for the crew’s help reestablishing their supply chain
  • Fully hive-minded: sees, hears, and (per the collective) tastes through the others; the crew blindfolded her and put headphones on her (Kenny’s Pony Boy playlist, played very loud) to try to cut the connection — it dampened but didn’t fully sever it
  • Revealed by Professor Jackson, under pressure, to have been sleeping with him for better grades — the leverage Broker used to force his cooperation
  • Dr. Brightowski declined to test Choo-Two (a nanomachine-killing coolant) on her directly — high concentrations risk organ failure; the crew balked at outright killing the nanites once they understood the actual risk
  • Left overnight with Professor Jackson along with a vial of Vilify, tasked with finding a safer way to taper her off the nanite connection (methadone-style) rather than a lethal purge
  • The crew was explicit that she must not learn she’s being treated — The Calling believes she’s still being used to help secure more Vilify, and the crew doesn’t want the collective to know otherwise until she’s actually cured
  • Session 05: instead of being cured overnight, apparently infected Professor Jackson herself via some faster method than ordinary Vilify use (“she got the drop on me”) — The Calling now describes having “discovered some way to accelerate the process”
  • Tried to flee through a window when the crew confronted Jackson the next morning; stunned down by Kenny and Mr. Zip (23 damage combined) and pinned before being forcibly treated: Speedheal for her injuries, then a careful, smaller dose of Choo-Two, which she took silently — light in her eyes dimmed but didn’t go out
  • Handed to Continental Brands alongside Jackson for further treatment and study
  • Session 06: found imprisoned at CB’s South Town facility, “huddled and scrunched over in pain”; still weak and sick from nanomachine withdrawal (“gasoline in her body”); dragged to safety by Kenny under fire, then shot in the calf by a guard and separately targeted and shot by Mr. Continental himself out of spite; shielded by Golden Girl’s cyberarm and treated for her wounds afterward
  • Session 07: appeared at the post-raid party, still limping from the ankle wound, faint purple light still in her eyes; appealed directly to Golden Girl (absent) for help — specifically, whether her cryogenics knowledge could freeze what’s left of The Calling as a stopgap. Gave the collective’s psychology in first-person terms for the first time: losing the connection now would be worse than never having had it (“you don’t understand what being alone feels like after you’ve stopped being alone”), and declared the Choo-Two cure “poison” to what they’ve become — “if the whole dies, the parts die too… you might as well dump us in the bay”

Open Questions

  • What is her real name?
  • How did she “accelerate the process” and infect Professor Jackson? Method unknown
  • Can the hive-mind connection be safely severed at all, or is she permanently altered?
  • What happens to her now that she’s out of Continental Brands’ custody — back to The Calling, or somewhere else?

Relationships

  • Golden Girl — classmate; recognized her, but doesn’t really know her; shielded and treated her during the Session 06 raid
  • Professor Jackson — professor; was sleeping with her for grades; apparently infected by her with The Calling’s accelerated assimilation method
  • The Calling — fully assimilated member, traded away by the collective itself
  • Mr. Continental — held her prisoner, then shot her out of spite as the Session 06 raid turned against him

Appearances

  • Session 04 — First appearance; traded by The Calling as a test subject; extracted from the sewers; brought to Dr. Brightowski, then left with Professor Jackson for treatment
  • Session 05 — Infected Professor Jackson via an accelerated assimilation method; stunned, pinned, and forcibly treated with Speedheal and Choo-Two; handed to Continental Brands
  • Session 06 — Found imprisoned at CB’s South Town facility; freed by Kenny under fire; shot by a guard and by Mr. Continental; treated by Golden Girl
  • Session 07 — Appealed to Golden Girl for cryogenics help; revealed The Calling’s collective psychology in first-person terms and declared the cure now poison to them
