Dr. Willie

Overview

A ripper doc operating out of Nexus Mods in the South Bay neighborhood. The upstream manufacturer of Vilify, supplied to the Piranhas. Has two cyber arms with hidden pop-up ranged weapons — and not nearly the spine to match. His operation was raided and effectively destroyed at the end of Session 02.

Appearance

Noted for two cyber arms with integrated pop-up ranged weapons (revealed during the Session 02 firefight). Described by the DM as “a big coward” despite the hardware — retreated and cowered rather than advancing in combat.

Known Facts

  • Ran Nexus Mods — a ripper doc clinic with a legitimate front targeting college students for cheap under-the-table cyberware work
  • Also ran a counterfeit cyberware operation on the side: sourcing parts from second-hand retailers and passing them off as brand-name; equipment in the clinic was well below standard despite looking polished
  • Developed and manufactured Vilify from a base chemical compound called Nonh (a “Rayl” compound), processed with additional work to produce the street drug; added black lace and “a little punch” to the Nonh base; did not know nanomachines were present
  • Vilify distribution: sold wholesale to The Piranhas; Sloan Enderman was the street distributor (not Dr. Willie’s operation)
  • His original contact was Martin Gorsky, a Continental Brands shipping dock worker who noticed the chemical in high volumes and brought it to Willie to identify; Martin took the drug himself repeatedly, then disappeared weeks before the raid
  • Coordinated with the Piranhas to obtain Nonh — directed them to steal the Continental Brands shipping container from the South Bay docks specifically because the Nonh was hidden inside with the chocolate kibble
  • The Piranhas were allowed to keep the kibble; Dr. Willie kept the Nonh
  • Received the Escalante data cube with the stolen shipment; did not recognize it or know what it was; it sat somewhere in the clinic unattended
  • Has no interest in or knowledge of treating Vilify addiction: “I didn’t care about ever treating these people — I wanted them to come in and get treated to give them more and more”
  • Hired bodyguards as his money grew; the clinic’s sudden expansion attracted notice in the neighborhood
  • Did not encrypt his emails; passwords stored in plaintext on a local notepad file (password: “Kenny Loggins”)
  • Had at least two dedicated security staff: Cisco (guard locked in a room) and Ombray (guard with a shotgun who shot Felix)
  • Toward the end of the firefight: ordered guards to stand down and produce the data cube when Continental Brands arrived; showed no loyalty to his operation once out-gunned
  • Held in CB custody at the South Town facility through Session 05; bitter, sarcastic, but cooperative under pressure
  • Session 06: freed by the crew during their raid on Continental Brands’ South Town facility — relieved to be alive (“stoked to be alive and not stuck in that stupid ass closet anymore”)
  • Session 06: reunited with Martin Gorsky and the surviving members of The Calling; told them he has no more Vilify and needs Continental Brands’ specific chemicals to make more — a dead end for now
  • Session 06: told the truth by Kenny about Dr. Brightowski’s death at Mr. Continental’s hands — genuinely shaken (“that stubborn old man… it’s not his kind of problem”)
  • Session 06: confirmed that nanomachines survive cryogenic freezing and defrosting intact — validating Kenny’s proposal to freeze The Calling’s members as a stopgap against their Nonh supply crisis
  • Session 06: mentions Nexus Mods could reopen “once we get insurance” sorted — likely a joke, but a real open thread for the clinic’s future
  • Kenny is considering having Dr. Willie install muscle and bone lace cyberware for him

Relationships

  • The Piranhas — primary distribution partner for Vilify; communicated via email about the heist
  • Dr. Brightowski — neighborhood competitor; openly despised by Brightowski; shaken by news of his death
  • Continental Brands — his operation targeted their stolen property; held him in custody for several sessions before the crew freed him
  • Martin Gorsky / The Calling — reunited in Session 06; they need his manufacturing knowledge, he needs CB’s chemicals, and neither has a supply

Open Questions

  • What is his actual full name?
  • Is he the only Vilify producer, or does the formula survive without him?
  • Does he know more about the Nonh compound’s origin than he’s let on?
  • Will he actually reopen Nexus Mods?
  • Will the cryo-freezing plan for The Calling actually happen?

Appearances

  • Session 01 — Name extracted from a wasted Piranha on the crew’s way out of the hideout
  • Session 02 — Clinic cased, broken into, and raided; surrendered the data cube under Continental Brands gunpoint
  • Session 03 — Interrogated in CB custody; confirmed Martin Gorsky as original contact, Piranhas as distributor, Sloan Enderman as street-level outlet; admitted no knowledge of treatment
  • Session 06 — Freed by the crew during the raid on Continental Brands; reunited with The Calling; confirmed cryo-freezing would preserve the nanomachines; learned of Dr. Brightowski’s death
