Martin Gorsky

Overview

A Continental Brands shipping dock worker at the South Town facility. The probable internal leak who tipped Dr. Willie to the Nonh compound in CB’s containers — and almost certainly the first person to use what would become Vilify. Found in Session 04: alive, but fully assimilated into The Calling, a Vilify hive mind living in the South Bay sewers. His last known communication before he was found is a post-it note in his own apartment: “Need to find my way down. Need to find my way home. I’m sorry, Max.” — “down” meant exactly what it sounded like.

Known Facts

  • Worked in Continental Brands’ shipping department at the South Bay / South Town docks
  • Noticed the Nonh compound arriving in high volumes in CB’s containers; sought someone to help identify it when no professors would talk to him
  • Contacted Dr. Willie, who agreed to look into it — and then turned it into a street drug
  • Took the compound himself, repeatedly; Dr. Willie describes him as having taken “quite a bit”
  • Has not been seen by Dr. Willie for weeks (before the Nexus Mods raid)
  • Continental Brands confirms he stopped coming to work; the CB contact thinks he “got hooked on that drug that’s floating around town”
  • Address: Apartment 3C, Brzezinski Arms (South Bay)
  • His apartment was found abandoned — empty Vilify vials, deteriorating handwriting in a notebook tracking the chemical compound, a partial chemical diagram with serotonin references, his dog left alone
  • Last written words found in his apartment: “Need to find my way down. Need to find my way home. I’m sorry, Max.” (written in deep red ink on a post-it note under his notebook)
  • Martin’s dog was left behind — a malnourished Biotechnica cyber dog who has since been adopted by Kenny Log-ins; revealed in Session 04 to have a full name — Betamax — rather than just “Max”
  • Found in Session 04, living in the South Bay sewers as part of The Calling — a Vilify hive mind. Owed Ledger 500 EB from an old arrangement; the collective settled the debt (and then some) with 1,000 EB scavenged from members’ pasts, in exchange for a test subject and access to “Martin”
  • No longer speaks purely as an individual — when the crew addressed him directly, the collective answered: “Martin is us,” “Martin is with us.” Whether any of the original Martin is still recoverable is unclear
  • Confirmed (via the collective) that his original interest in the Nonh chemical was genuine curiosity — reached out to local scientists and professors who wouldn’t give him the time of day, before a fixer connected him to Dr. Willie
  • Session 05: acted as The Calling’s independent-seeming spokesperson, walking alone to Kenny’s workshop to plead for help against a Continental Brands purge of the sewer facility; negotiated (via Broker) a deal where the crew helps defend the collective in exchange for a binding no-forced-assimilation promise
  • Led the crew to a second, more hidden sewer entrance to reach Shoa Ling and the rest of the collective
  • Session 06: emerged with the surviving Calling members after the crew’s raid on Continental Brands, overwhelmed with gratitude — didn’t even know if the crew’s “cyber psycho trick” against Shoa Ling was going to work; Kenny broke the news to him that Mr. Continental had been running a literal tracker counting down how many of them he needed to kill to push Shoa Ling into cyberpsychosis — it was genuinely touch and go
  • Session 06: honored the collective’s promise and paid the crew’s full agreed fee (3,000 EB, split 600 EB each) after Kenny pointedly reminded them what happens when people break promises to The Calling
  • Session 06: with Dr. Willie reunited but out of Vilify and lacking CB’s chemicals, admits The Calling’s new “plan” is just to go looking for more of the compound — no real strategy yet

Open Questions

  • Is any of the original Martin still “in there,” or is he fully gone into the collective?
  • Did he intentionally leak the Nonh compound, or was he just curious and got in over his head? (Leaning toward the latter, per The Calling’s account)
  • What does he know about CB’s lunar operations?
  • “I’m sorry, Max” — apology to the dog, or to someone else?
  • Does he want to be extracted, if that’s even possible?

Appearances

  • Session 03 — Named by Dr. Willie as the CB leak and Vilify’s first user; apartment investigated; post-it note and notebook found; dog rescued
  • Session 04 — Found alive in the South Bay sewers, fully assimilated into The Calling; debt to Ledger settled by the collective; traded a test subject for goodwill with the crew
  • Session 06 — Emerged after the Continental Brands raid; revealed CB’s kill-tracker on Shoa Ling’s cyberpsychosis threshold; paid the crew’s full 3,000 EB fee
